    Automotive Parts Manufacturing

    The automotive parts industry is highly competitive and directly related to the economy, consumer spending and new cars sales. Approximately 70 percent of parts consumption is for use on new vehicles, with the remainder going to aftermarket parts(1).The nature of the industry creates a need for parts manufacturers to increase efficiency and reduce costs that detract from the bottom line. Automobiles, trucks and similar transportation vehicles are composed of myriad parts of all sizes and metallurgy, and manufactured using multiple techniques. Manufacturers specialize in specific parts categories, each requiring a unique approach to handling production wastewater. During their manufacture, parts can be die cut, ground, stamped and machined from metal plate. In the finishing and deburring processes, parts are vibrated or machined to remove excess material. The parts are then quenched with oil and cleaned in a chemical and water bath with rust inhibitors added to preserve the finish on the parts. The resulting ‘gray’ wash-and-rinse tank water contains metallic and oil residue that must be removed, with the water clarified to meet regulatory standards for sewer disposal.

    Addressing Wastewater

    Waste materials and wastewater are non-contributors to profits and need to be disposed of thoroughly and cost effectively. CETCO’s treatment protocol is used to remove suspended solids from the solution through flocculation. We offer more than 40 distinct treatment products, tailored specifically to client requirements, including daily flow rates and discharge limits. Our RM-10® primary treatment relies on a proprietary dry chemical composition with naturally occurring Bentonite as its base. Heavy metals, emulsified oils and minute suspended solids are flocculated in the gray water and separated during the clarification process. In a single step, wastewater is prepared for flow to the sewer, meeting public-owned treatment works (POTW) standards.

    A Better Way

    CETCO’s wastewater products and technology have established a reputation within the industry as being ‘too good to be true’. Proven products, however, are not all that make us stand out. As a full-service provider, CETCO is different from our competition. Our complete life cycle service starts with a plant survey and front-end analysis of a client’s parts wash water to determine the natureand extent of the contaminants to be handled. Wastewater samples are sent to our in-house central laboratory, where they are analyzed by knowledgeable scientists and technicians using leading-edge equipment. The information obtained from this initial analysis helps us to develop an understanding of the best method to treat process effluent.

    Once the analysis is completed and a report prepared, we develop an in-situ chemically intensive treatment plan specifically suited to the client’s needs. In addition to the most robust flocculant treatment available, additional proprietary formulated aids enhance results with ion exchange properties to remove trace metals and emulsified hydrocarbons. Activated carbon filtration is available for use in polishing when required. The result is an on-site, direct-to-sewer solution with no need for effluent hauling off-site for further processing.

    CETCO plays a continuous role in testing and support during all process stages, including post-treatment of wastewater and flocculated product. We also periodically test effluent to verify the effectiveness of the treatment formulation and evaluate the impact of changes to any changes to the client’s operational procedures.
