WINES AND JUICES. . .for clarification
Volclay bentonite, specifically, KWK Food Grade and Krystal Klear KWK are extensively used for the clarification and purification of organic liquids such as wines, fruit juices, raw sugar juices and others. It functions by adsorption and flocculation of the proteins and other undesirable impurities.

CLARIFICATION AND PURIFICATION. . . as an adsorbent
Volclay sodium bentonite suspensions combine chemically with dissolved salts present in some natural waters to form a floc that settles rapidly. The floc removes part of the salts and entraps fine suspended solids that make water cloudy. Bentonite is also used as an initiator or starter for flocs in water treatment plants using common industrial chemicals for purification. Flocs formed on Volclay bentonite hold algae better than chemical flocs. Volclay bentonite can be used to recover some industrial wastes, coal mine wash waters and blast furnace dust. Used in combination with alum, lime, salts, or polyelectrolytes, Volclay bentonite improves both the rate of settling and sludge compaction. Higher efficiency of removal results from such combinations.

Volclay KWK 200 Tech Sheet
