Operator Technician (Quinnesec, MI)

Specialty Minerals Inc., an international, research-based, mining, minerals, and chemical company, has an opening for an Operator Technician at its plant in Quinnesec, MI.  The plant manufactures a raw material used in their paper making process.

The successful candidate will be responsible for day to day plant activities, operating and maintaining of a computer controlled process, performing various quality control lab tests, unloading of bulk product, as well as working in a team environment that promotes safety, clear communication, leadership, creativity and overall, continuous improvement for both the individual and the Company. The candidate will also be responsible for providing maintenance support to the facility.  Duties include calibration and troubleshooting of process equipment, repair/replacement of valves, piping, pumps, and motors, maintaining an inventory system, etc.  PC skills will be required for monitoring, administrative, purchasing and records keeping responsibilities.
 
Qualifications include a solid education in computer based process control or related field and/or several years experience working with computer based process control equipment and processes.   In addition, candidate must have experience with continuous flow process, manufacturing, chemical, batch, and blending.  The successful candidate must be highly motivated, creative, display integrity, have outstanding interpersonal skills and be a team player.  A strong background in mechanical, electrical and instrumentation is preferred.   The plant is a continuous operation and the successful candidate must be available to work on a rotating shift including some weekends and on-call.  Availability to travel as a technical resource to SMI as required is necessary.
