Specialty Minerals Inc., an international, research-based, mining, minerals and chemical company, has an opening for a Maintenance Technician at its plant in Jay, Maine. The plant manufactures a raw material used in the paper making process.

The successful candidate, as part of the team, will be responsible for trouble-shooting, repairs and maintenance for the entire facility- in a continuous flow/chemical process environment.  This includes: agitator gearboxes, cooling towers, centrifuges, centrifugal pumps, progressive cavity pumps, motors, valves, piping and associated instrumentation, motor control center and a Siemens 7 process control system.  Duties also include maintaining a computerized maintenance management system (DataStream 7i), as well as working in a team environment that promotes safety, clear communications, leadership, creativity, and overall continuous improvement for both the individual and the company.  Good PC skills will be required for monitoring, administrative, financial, purchasing and record keeping responsibilities.  The candidate will need to drive change for maintenance at the plant - including preventive maintenance system improvement and interface with operations for ongoing process improvements.

A strong electrical background is required combined with good mechanical experience. Instrumentation skills would be a plus. The plant is a continuous operation requiring occasional overtime and call-ins.  The successful candidate must be highly motivated, creative, display integrity, have outstanding interpersonal skills and be a team player.  Availability to travel as a technical resource (interplant, training) is required.  This plant is a Self-Directed Work Team in a Lean Manufacturing environment and has adopted a skill based pay system. Lean background a definite plus.
